When it comes to Marrakech, you’ve got two choices: go big with a resort, or lean into the authentic, intimate vibe of a traditional riad. I chose the latter and I’m so glad I did.
Dar Kandi was everything I hoped for and more. It was chic, peaceful, well-located and ridiculously good value, proving that you don’t need to spend a fortune to feel like you’re on a luxury escape.

First Impressions – A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Medina
Like many places in Marrakech, you’d never guess what’s behind the unassuming door of Dar Kandi. But step inside and you’re instantly in another world: tranquil courtyards, lush plants, traditional tiles and lanterns flickering away in the corners.
It feels personal and peaceful, a real contrast to the bustle of the nearby souks and that’s part of its magic. You feel like you’ve discovered a secret.
We were greeted with Moroccan mint tea and the warmest service, which set the tone for the rest of the stay.
The Rooms – Boutique Luxury with Traditional Charm
There are just six rooms at Dar Kandi, each one beautifully styled with Moroccan detailing, luxe linens and artisan touches. We stayed in a room that felt modern but still authentic, with arched doorways, patterned tiles and a dreamy bed.
It had all the little touches that make a difference:
Air conditioning (a must!)
Walk-in shower and lovely bathroom amenities
Plenty of space to unwind after a day of exploring
It’s the kind of place that feels much more expensive than it actually is.
Rooftop Pool & Hammam – Calm Above the City
The rooftop terrace is the standout feature. There’s a small but stunning pool, comfy sunbeds, shaded lounging areas and views over the rooftops of the Medina.
You can have drinks, read, sunbathe, or just enjoy the silence. They also have a private hammam on site if you want to really lean into the spa energy.
It’s peaceful, relaxing and beautiful.

Food & Service – Simple, Delicious & So Personal
We didn’t eat dinner at the riad (there are so many restaurants in the city), but breakfast was included and lovely... think fresh orange juice, Moroccan pancakes, fruit, bread, jams and eggs to order.
We also had lunch on the rooftop and it was delicious, really fresh and home-cooked. The kitchen team will often prepare meals to order with a bit of notice, which is perfect if you fancy a quiet night in.
The service is what makes Dar Kandi really special. It’s a small team, but they’re so warm, kind and helpful. It feels personal, like staying in a friend’s beautiful home rather than a hotel.
Location – Right in the Heart, but Still Peaceful
Dar Kandi is tucked inside the Medina, close to Bab Doukkala and just a short walk from the souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa square. It’s central, but not right in the noise, which means you get easy access to everything, but still enjoy your peace and quiet.
There are amazing restaurants nearby, including some lovely rooftop spots and cafés for lunch or dinner.
Who’s It For?
Couples looking for a romantic and authentic stay
Girly weekends or solo travellers wanting calm, style and comfort
Those who want to explore the real Marrakech but still have a calm base
Families with older kids or SEN families who don’t need kids’ facilities... it’s not ‘kiddie’, but Jax could definitely come with me
Final Thoughts – I’ll Be Back for Sure
I absolutely loved Dar Kandi. It gave us everything we needed: style, comfort, great food, personal service and a sense of calm that’s hard to find in the city.
If you’re heading to Marrakech and want luxury without the price tag, a location near the action and a rooftop that feels like your own private sanctuary, then this is the one.
