Benidorm might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of relaxed, resort-style luxury, but Meliá Villaitana is here to completely change that. Tucked away in the hills just outside the town, this hotel feels like its own little world, with pastel-coloured buildings, cobbled walkways and serious Mediterranean vibes.
It honestly felt more like being in a little Spanish village than at a big resort. And I loved it.

First Impressions – Colourful, Spacious, and Surprisingly Peaceful
You arrive to what looks like a mini Spanish town built into the hillside, with terracotta rooftops, archways and palm-lined walkways.
It’s a big resort, but because of the layout, it never felt chaotic. There was plenty of space, loads of greenery and the setting in the hills means it’s quieter than being right in town, but still just a short drive to Benidorm’s beaches if you fancy a change of scene.
The Room – Spacious, Comfortable & Great for Families
The rooms are bright, airy and spacious, with balconies or terraces that overlook either the golf course, the pools, or the hills.
We had a junir suite which was huge! Loads of room to spread out and the layout worked really well with Jax. It’s not flashy, but it’s clean, comfortable and well-equipped, with everything you’d expect from a Meliá hotel... minibar, comfy beds, large bathroom and lots of wardrobe space (which I always appreciate on a longer stay!).
Facilities – Resort Vibes Without the Overwhelm
This is where Meliá Villaitana shines. It has the feel of a full resort, but with lots of charm and calmness too:
Two golf courses (if that’s your thing, it’s very popular with golfers)
Huge lagoon-style pools with plenty of beds, cabanas and shallow areas for little ones
A proper kids’ splash area with water games and mini slides
A spa and wellness centre with a hydrotherapy circuit and beauty treatments
Multiple bars and restaurants dotted throughout
Entertainment and kids’ activities during peak seasons
Despite being a large resort, it never felt overcrowded; there’s room to breathe, wander and relax.
Food & Drink – Plenty of Choice & Fresh Flavours
There are a few restaurants on site, with a mix of buffet and à la carte options. The main buffet had loads of variety... fresh fruit, Spanish dishes, international favourites and plenty for kids.
We also tried the Italian à la carte, which was lovely and there’s a more relaxed poolside bar for snacks and cocktails in the sun.
If you upgrade to The Level, you also get access to extra dining perks, private lounges and adults-only areas.
How Was It for Jax?
Really good. He loved the kids’ pool and splash zone and the space gave him plenty of room to move, explore and feel relaxed.
The vibe is family-friendly without being chaotic, which is exactly what I want... somewhere he’s free to be himself, but still calm enough for us to enjoy a chilled-out holiday.
Who’s It For?
Families wanting a relaxed resort feel without flying long haul
Couples who want a peaceful escape with golf, spa, and sunshine
Travellers looking for a base close to Benidorm, but not in the middle of it
People who love pretty hotels with a village-like atmosphere
Final Thoughts – A Lovely Spanish Surprise
I’ll be honest... I didn’t expect to love this hotel as much as I did. Meliá Villaitana gave us a peaceful, beautiful place to unwind, great facilities for families and that all-important feel of being away without being too far from civilisation.
It’s easy, colourful, spacious and one of those hotels that works really well whether you want to chill or explore.
