The Cave Hotel: Luxury in Canterbury

If you’ve ever come across The Cave Hotel in Canterbury on Instagram, you’ll know it’s got that cool, sexy, modern vibe that immediately makes you want to book a night away. That’s exactly what tempted me. It looked gorgeous, the price point was really reasonable for the level of luxury and it wasn’t too far to travel for a little treat.
It was originally meant to be a child-free escape for me and my husband… but when your babysitter cancels last minute, you pack up the child and make it work. I’m so glad we did, because The Cave surprised us in all the best ways.

First Impressions
First off, it looks exactly as good as it does online. The grounds are beautiful, with a golf course wrapping around the property and they have a good driving range too.
The overall vibe is cool, chic and grown-up, without feeling pretentious.
Reception staff were brilliant, they even gave Jax his own little robe and teddy on check-in, which was such a thoughtful touch for a hotel that isn’t really geared towards kids. A small thing, but it really stayed with me.
The Room – Next Level Luxury
Our room was one of the best I’ve ever stayed in for sheer luxury and comfort.
Super spacious, moody lighting
Netflix, Disney+ and Sky Sports included
A cosy electric fireplace
Massive, cloud-like bed (possibly the comfiest I’ve ever slept in)
Mood lighting controlled by iPad
Automated blackout curtains (button by the bed – love that!)
Fully stocked minibar with premium snacks and drinks
Stylish, modern bathroom with rainfall shower and freestanding tub
Everything felt luxurious and well thought out, with the kind of tech and finish you'd expect in Dubai, right down to the Dyson hairdryer in the room.

The Spa – Poolside Cocktails & Relaxation
The spa isn’t huge but it’s gorgeous. You’ve got a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi. They’ve cleverly placed an iPad poolside for ordering cocktails, which is a really great detail.
One downside: there aren’t many loungers, only about four each side. So, if you want a spot to relax, head down early.
Kids are allowed, which worked for us, but it’s very much designed for grown-up chill time.

Food & Drink – Genuinely Outstanding
The food here deserves its own fan club. There are two restaurants:
The Firepit
A slick, modern steakhouse with a focus on wood-fired cooking and incredible flavours. Think perfectly cooked steaks, loaded sweet potatoes with cheese and delicious cocktails. The atmosphere is dark, moody and very date-night.
Korean Cowgirl
More laid-back, but still exceptional. Korean fried chicken, sticky wings, and epic desserts. It’s all ridiculously good.
They also offer 24-hour room service, a major plus! We ordered French toast to the room and honestly, it was the best I’ve ever had. Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet. You can choose from different flavours. I went for Strawberries & Nutella. Worth booking a stay just for that!
Family-Friendly?
Truthfully, this isn’t a hotel designed for children. It’s sexy, grown-up and more of a couples’ retreat. That said, they’re really accommodating if you do bring little ones, there’s even a playground outside. I’d definitely bring Jax again if I needed to, but it’s not a family resort.
Who’s It For?
If you’re looking for a luxury UK break with serious style points, this is your spot. Perfect for:
Couples
Friends looking for a spa break
Golfers (the course looks amazing!)
Anyone who wants that “Dubai level luxury” for the night, without the flight.
Final Thoughts – Would I Go Back?
I’ve stayed here twice already... once with Jax, once just the two of us and I’ll 100% be back again. It’s one of my favourite UK hotels. They get the details right, from the luxury touches to the food and the spa. It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after, a little spoiled and completely relaxed.
