Some hotels just have that extra something, don’t they? A bit of history, a bit of quirk and a whole lot of charm. The Dixon, Tower Bridge is one of those places.

Set in what was once Tower Bridge Magistrates’ Court and Police Station, The Dixon blends luxury, art and history in a way that feels effortless. It’s part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which I love! Each hotel in the collection is chosen for being “Exactly Like Nothing Else” and The Dixon absolutely lives up to that.

First Impressions – History Everywhere You Look

From the outside, The Dixon looks grand, with its original Edwardian façade still proudly standing on Tooley Street. Step inside and it’s a whole other level of cool: original features meet contemporary art, luxury finishes and clever nods to its past life as a courthouse.

One of my favourite details? The bar is set in the old courtroom. The original layout remains, with judge’s bench, witness box, the whole lot! Now it’s home to cocktails and much less drama. The atmosphere is warm, stylish and full of stories (if walls could talk…).

Rooms with a Story

The rooms at The Dixon are gorgeous, plush, spacious and thoughtfully designed. But it’s the little touches that make them so special:

  • Coffee tables crafted from old prison cell doors, complete with original carvings from former inmates.

  • Mugshot-inspired artwork that brings a playful edge to the luxe surroundings.

Despite the history, the rooms are modern and comfortable with Hypnos beds, luxurious linens, Nespresso machines and rainfall showers. It’s a hotel that balances cool design with proper comfort.

Dining & Drinking

The Courtroom Bar

Possibly one of London’s most unique hotel bars, set in the old courtroom itself. Think elevated cocktails, great wine and a buzzy yet intimate atmosphere. It’s stylish but relaxed, perfect for a pre-theatre drink or a nightcap.

Provisioners Restaurant

A light, bright space with a Mediterranean-inspired menu. The focus here is on simple, seasonal ingredients, think freshly baked bread, burrata, seafood and vibrant salads. Coffee is from local London roastery Allpress Espresso, so you’re sorted from breakfast right through to dinner.

Facilities & Fun Facts

  • 24-hour gym with Peloton bikes and Technogym equipment

  • Art-led interiors throughout the hotel

  • Original jailhouse doors and features thoughtfully repurposed

  • Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection for those collecting points or loyalty perks

  • Within easy reach of Tower Bridge, Borough Market, and the South Bank

Who’s It For?

  • Couples looking for a city break with character

  • Luxury travellers who appreciate history and design

  • Solo travellers wanting something a bit more interesting than your average chain hotel

  • Anyone who wants to stay in central London without feeling ‘corporate’

Final Thoughts – Why It’s One of My Favourites

I absolutely loved The Dixon. It’s one of those hotels where you can feel the history, personality and thought that’s gone into every detail. It manages to be luxurious, warm and just a little bit playful... all things I look for when recommending a city stay.

If you want a London hotel with a story (and a seriously good cocktail bar), this one is hard to beat.
