Some hotels don’t just offer a place to sleep... they offer a whole experience. The Ned, London is exactly that kind of place. Set in the former Midland Bank building, The Ned is part luxury hotel, part private members’ club, part foodie haven and part nightlife spot, all wrapped up in serious old-school glamour.

I’ve visited, toured the space and soaked up the atmosphere. While I haven’t stayed (yet!), I’ve seen enough to say confidently this is one of London’s most iconic hotel experiences.

First Impressions – Grand, Glamorous, and Full of Stories

Walking into The Ned is like stepping into another era. The main banking hall, now home to bars, restaurants and live music, is jaw-droppingly impressive. High ceilings, marble columns and vintage glamour everywhere you look.

Originally designed in 1924 by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens, the building’s history is still very much present, not least in the basement, where the old bank vault has been transformed into a cocktail bar. Yes, really. It’s called Ned’s Club Vault and it’s members-only, packed with history and very cool vibes.

Inside The Ned – What Makes It Special

Restaurants, Bars & That Famous Buffet

One thing The Ned isn’t short of? Places to eat and drink. There are nine restaurants and bars within the hotel, all set around the stunning central banking hall. You’ll find everything from seafood to British classics, Italian to Asian cuisine. The vibe is lively, chic and always buzzing.

Millie’s Lounge – Think relaxed British dining with an all-day menu.

Kaia – Asian-Pacific with sushi and robata grill.

Malibu Kitchen – Californian health-led menu with lots of plant-based options.

Cecconi’s – Classic Italian (always reliable).

The Nickel Bar – Cocktails, live music and casual dining.

The Parlour – A slightly more intimate bar space with live performances.

They’re also known for their Sunday Feast... a legendary buffet brunch with oysters, roasts and endless desserts, all served in that incredible banking hall setting.

Rooms & Suites – Retro Luxe With a Nod to the Past

Rooms are designed with a 1920s twist... vintage touches, plush fabrics and heritage colours, but with all the modern comforts you’d expect. Think rainfall showers, Cowshed toiletries and the comfiest beds.

They range from ‘Crash Pads’ for quick city stays to sprawling Heritage Suites overlooking St Paul’s. Everything feels stylish but not try-hard.

Rooftop & Members-Only Spaces

One of the things that makes The Ned so special (and a bit exclusive) is Ned’s Club... their private members’ club that includes access to:

  • The Rooftop Pool & Bar – Views over St Paul’s, incredible in summer (members only).

  • Ned’s Club Vault – The old bank vault turned intimate bar.

  • Ned’s Club Gym & Spa – Fully equipped gym, spa and wellness area with a Moroccan hammam and Cowshed treatments.

Facilities & Features

  • Spa with Cowshed products, sauna, steam room and treatments

  • Gym with rooftop views and top-class equipment

  • Events space in the former bank vaults

  • Live music and entertainment every night in the main lounge

Who’s It For?

  • Luxury travellers looking for a hotel with personality

  • Couples on a city break who love good food, good bars and good vibes

  • Anyone who appreciates history, design and a little exclusivity

  • Corporate guests who want more than just a business hotel

Final Thoughts – Why It’s On My Must-Stay List

The Ned is more than just a hotel. It’s a destination in itself... somewhere to eat, drink, spa, swim and socialise, all while soaking up a bit of London history. I’ve heard nothing but good things from people who’ve stayed and after visiting, I get the hype.

If you love character, luxury and a hotel that feels alive, The Ned is absolutely worth adding to your list.
